What is the difference between seeking advice and making a safeguarding referral?

Professional advice and a safeguarding referral have different purposes.
Advice from DIA can help you understand your professional responsibilities, consider your practice and decide what steps may be appropriate. A safeguarding referral is intended to protect someone who may be at risk and involves contacting the appropriate safeguarding service.
In
some circumstances, you may need both. Seeking professional advice does not replace taking action to protect someone at risk.
