How can I avoid overreacting to incidents on the road?

Awareness is key. Common cognitive distortions include:

  • Catastrophising – e.g. assuming a minor incident was life-threatening

  • Personalising – interpreting another’s mistake as a targeted action

Reframing thoughts (e.g. “They made a mistake, not a personal attack”) and practising calming strategies such as controlled breathing can reduce the emotional impact.
